Depends how long I plan on being there. If I'm at someone's dorm room I'll usually keep them on. Apartments only if I'm planning on staying a while will I take them off and at houses I'll almost always take them off.

So if you walk into a house that's clearly a shoes off home you'll still keeo them on?!

I'm from Canada so we take our shoes off unlike the dirty Americans down south.
We're not savages and we do take our shoes off. Not sure where you got that from.

I had a roommate once that never took his shoes off until he went to bed. I contemplated homicide for him several times. Especially when he wanted to talk to me while I was "using the internet".

Product of my environment

I always made it a habit to take my shoes off indoors. If I'm in somebody's home it's the respectful thing to do, and in order to keep my apartment fresh I don't wear shoes. If I have guests I make it clear that they need to take their shoes off too. The "shoes off habit" was instilled by my mother, back when I was living with her everything had to be spotless 24/7.

I go barefoot as much as possible in and around my own home.

Interestingly, seems like all the British people answered that they keep shoes on in other people's homes. Must be a British custom.

I prefer wood or tile. Cat vomit is a b*** to clean up on carpet.

Lots of places have carpet in the UK too.

Carpets still store a lot of dust 'n' dirt. Except for decoration, I don't know why people would opt for it...

It's comfy beneath your feet. I only hope to live long enough to see shag carpeting come back into style.

If I come into anyone's home, I almost always take my shoes off immediately after coming in. I'm not going to track whatever I brought outside, inside someone else's home. It's just bad manners over here.
